Introduction:
International Relations as a concept is extremely broad. The major itself focuses on figuring out the issues that affect international communities and creating solutions to solve those problems. One organization that is a major staple of improving the lifestyle of those around the world is the United Nations. Among the many programs that the U.N. funds and participates in, I decided to focus on the program Every Woman Every Child.
The program Every Woman Every Child is "global movement that mobilizes and intensifies international and national action by governments, multi-laterals, the private sector and civil society to address the major health challenges facing women and children around the world" (Every Woman Every Child Homepage). As extensive as the definition of the program, Every Woman Every Child, to summarize on, focuses on education, family planning, protection and growth of females worldwide. In setting goals to take care of the females of this world, the program EWEC plans to help the world as a whole.

Background:
Every Woman Every Child was developed after the creation of the Millennium Development Goals in 2000. The Millennium Development goals have 8 large goals in mind.
These goals are:
ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY & HUNGER,
ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION
REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY
COMBAT HIV/AIDS, MALARIA AND OTHER DISEASES
IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH
ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
DEVELOP A GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP FOR DEVELOPMENT
PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN (Millennium Development Goals Website)
The program Every Woman Every Child focuses on multiple facets of the MDGs. Through the funding that the program receives, woman and female children are given the ability to become equal in the eyes of the public as well as become educated on their future choices. Women and children will be given the choice to protect themselves for future endeavors and defeat any obstacles that arise on any occasion.
This project is important because "The health of women and children is critically important to almost every area of human development and progress" (Every Woman Every Child Website). Not only does the human race depend on women to produce offspring, but the culture needs strong women to be educated and understand their full potential in the world.
When society is thriving and producing educated women, society is growing and improving. The world needs to level this knowledge with everyone and all of society should be participating in this because when society is prosperous "political stability and social harmony" are sure to follow (Every Woman Every Child Website).

Progress of the Program:
Currently the program is in progress as it progresses towards its goals of education and improving the health standards of women worldwide. At the launch of the program, a sum of $40 billion dollars was pledged by 2010, but the fight isn't over yet. The program is seeking out more international funding so that this program will have the ability of "saving the lives of 16 million women and children, preventing 33 million unwanted pregnancies, ending stunting in 88 million children, and protecting 120 million children from pneumonia by 2015" (Every Woman Every Child Website).
The program is continually growing with the help of multiple agencies and networks. Many of these additional agencies and programs help to complete the promise of Every Woman Every Child. Below I've listed some of the programs and the progress that each program has made to continually help complete the goals of Every Woman Every Child.

A Promise Renewed, is one of the movements associated with Every Woman Every Child. This movement has made progress in "committing to do everything possible to accelerate declines in preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths" (A Promise Renewed Website). So far this organization has helped to complete the health goals of Every Woman Every Child by saving nearly "90 million lives over the past two decades" (A Promise Renewed Website).
Photo acquired from Family Planning 2020 Website
Family Planning 2020, is another example of an organization helping the program Every Woman Every Child complete its goal. Family Planning 2020 focuses on women & girl's ability to make a decision when it come to children. The program pledges to "to address the policy, financing, delivery and socio-cultural barriers to women accessing contraceptive information, services and supplies." (Family Planning 2020 Website).
So far the program has made strides in the realm of family planning, but the fight isn't over. The plan of this program is to address the issue of accessibility of contraceptives for females around the world. Family Planning 2020 plans to help with this goal by the year 2020. FP 2020 deems that if "If 120 million more women and girls can access contraception by 2020 we will see more than 110 million fewer unintended pregnancies; nearly 3 million fewer babies dying in their first year of life; and 200,000 fewer women and girls dying in pregnancy and childbirth" (Family Planning 2020 Website). If the organization can help complete these goals by 2020, the health benefits of women everywhere would increase.

Conclusions:
Public health concerns involving large masses of people cannot be resolved in a day by any one group of people. In order to improve the lives of women and children worldwide, programs need to be put in place to help approach these issues with more than one approach. This is a good example of cultural entrepreneurship because the program focuses on changing the negative aspects against women and focuses on raising women from their current social standing worldwide.
This program is focused on changing the cultural barriers rather than using business plans to succeed in the goals of the UN. Rather than trying to implement change based on financial ability, Every Woman Every Child focuses on the ability to adapt to the world of where societal norms are changed. As Kathy Lazlo has stated previously regarding cultural entrepreneurship, the focus of cultural entrepreneurship "are more interested in addressing the paradigmatic changes that need to occur to reinvent society." For this reason, the program Every Woman Every Child is more centered on a cultural entrepreneurship method.
As the program Every Woman Every Child progresses, the healthcare of women and children everywhere will change. Healthcare of women and children will now become a major concern in the public eye. The program will continue to help create awareness of the debilitating circumstances that affect women and children everywhere.
